The national demonstration remembered the Nakba which took place 76 years ago and it still ongoing. Demonstrators also continued their call for an immediate end to the genocide and for a stop to the UK’s arms trade with Israel.
The annual Nakba Day commemorates the ethnic cleansing of 750,000 Palestinians, three-quarters of the Palestinian population, from their homeland in 1947/8, and the subsequent denial of their right to return. This is part of Israel’s settler colonial project to remove as many of the indigenous Palestinian population, confiscating their land and then replacing them with the Jewish population that it moves in from other countries.
Israel’s current genocide is built on the foundations of its setter colonialism policy in all of historic Palestine.
