ICAHD works towards a political solution that ends Israel’s occupation over the Palestinians and for the establishment of an inclusive democracy from the river to the sea.

We are a political organisation and not a charity and therefore we rely on the generosity of our members and supporters to fund campaigns.

It is important to obtain proper advice when making a will - this link to the UK Government website is a useful way to start the process.

In this short guide we describe the steps to take if you would like to leave ICAHD UK a legacy in your will.

Writing or updating your will in four stages

  1. Write or update your list of assets

List the value of everything you own and whether you share ownership of anything. Also include any debts that could reduce your estate.

  1. Choose your executors

In your Will, include the names of the people you trust to carry out your wishes. These can be family members, friends, or professionals such as solicitors and accountants. It’s best to consult your chosen executors before you appoint them.

  1. Support the people and causes you care about

After any other beneficiaries are taken care of, you may wish to support the charities and causes you care about. If you would like to include ICAHD UK, please use the wording supplied on the right.

  1. Finish your Will

You will need two independent witnesses present when you sign your Will. These witnesses cannot be beneficiaries of your estate. Then choose a safe place to store your Will, where it will be easy to locate. It’s important to keep your Will up to date if your circumstances change.

Ready to use wording for your will

For leaving a share of your estate I give a ____% share of the residue of my estate to…

For leaving a cash gift I give the sum of £_____ to….

For leaving a specific gift I give my _description of item_ to…

Then add this wording to pledge a gift to ICAHD UK, BM ICAHD UK, LONDON WC1N 3XX to be used for its general campaigning purposes and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge.”

Legal language and inheritance tax

Residuary gift

A residuary gift, or ‘share of your estate’, is the percentage of your estate that you choose to leave to a beneficiary. It will not devalue over time.

Pecuniary gift

A pecuniary gift, or ‘cash gift’, is an exact sum of money. Inflation may devalue the amount over time, so it’s best to check your Will is still in line with your wishes or consider a residuary gift instead.

Specific gift

This is a specific item rather than money, such as an antique or shares. It’s important to describe these items exactly.

Reversionary gift

This is when you leave a gift to someone for their lifetime, on the understanding that after their death, it then goes elsewhere. It’s best to consult your solicitor about these gifts.

Codicil

This is a legal document that explains or updates your existing Will.

Inheritance tax

It’s important to be aware of your Inheritance Tax liability. Leaving a gift to ICAHD UK can lower the amount of Inheritance Tax payable on your estate, reducing the amount of tax your beneficiaries will have to pay. It’s best to check the www.gov.uk website listed above.

Conclusion

We recommend you obtain advice from a solicitor or Citizens Advice when making or revising a Will and further details can be sought via this link to Citizens Advice.

Thank you for considering including ICAHD in your will. Your support enables us to campaign for an end to Israeli’s illegal occupation of Palestine and for the establishment of an inclusive democracy for all Israelis and Palestinians between the Jordan river to the Mediterranean sea.
