Photo: Settler violence in Masafer Yatta – Palestine Return Centre

Our two speakers spoke powerfully and left the audience speechless as they described what is happening within their communities in Area C of the West Bank. Israel seeks to annex this land as part of its settler colonial agenda to displace these indigenous Palestinian communities for the expansion of Israeli Jewish settlements. Since 7th October 2023, extreme right-wing settlers have been allowed to go into the Palestinian communities terrorising the residents.

Area C is under full military control thus there are no authorities that the Palestinians can call upon to protect them. Both speakers spoke about the demolitions, ICAHD’s focus for mobilization.

Khalil described what happened the day that his brother Awdah was shot and killed by settler Yinon Levy, who has not been convicted of his crime and has returned to Umm Al-Khair along with other settlers who enter homes and beat the residents.

The communities have been cut off from one another. Children cannot reach their schools, and it is extremely difficult to get to hospitals as for them, even using the roads is not safe.

More than anything, Palestinians in the Jordan Valley and the South Hebron Hills long for sleep. They are deprived of it because settlers come at night to steel animals and damage their property.

Rashed called for people to come to stay with them, to witness what is happening and then tell their stories. Internationals providing protective presence reduces settler violence and is needed as a matter of urgency.

View the webinar to hear more of their stories and to gain more details about what you can do to support them.

Please respond to the call from Khalil and Rashed by taking at least one of these actions:

  • Donate to ICAHD’s Sumud Project to help Palestinians resist ethnic cleansing and the settler violence they are experiencing. The first donations will go to the village of Umm Al-Khair and to the Jordan Valley Solidarity Campaign.
  • Write to your MP who must be informed about Israel’s ethnic cleansing in the West Bank and its planned annexation of Area C. Ask you MP to speak out in parliament on this issue which violates the Fourth Geneva Convention. Israel must be called to account with the UK implementing sanctions.
  • Demonstrate your solidarity by participating in the November study tour or if possible, join a programme to provide the desperately needed protective presence.

Speakers:

Rashed Khudairy, Coordinator
Jordan Valley Solidarity Campaign

Khalil Al-Hathaleen
