Ingrid Fiskaa

Norwegian MP Ingrid Fiskaa nominates Issa Amro from Hebron and Jeff Halper from Jerusalem for the Nobel Peace Prize 2025. A Peace Prize for Amro and Halper would be a powerful rebuke of the current violations of the Palestinian people and a powerful and necessary defense of the rules-based international order which is now being torn apart.

Issa Amro and Jeff Halper bring a light of hope in times of total darkness. It is an honor to nominate these two longstanding human rights activists to the Nobel Peace Prize, says Fiskaa. “As the political and military conflict between Israel and Palestine seems deeper than ever, it is incumbent upon us to highlight the alternative voices who work and advocate for universal human rights and a common future on the ground.”

The Israeli occupation of Palestine gets worse by the day. As the bombardment of Gaza ends, at least for now, Israeli tanks roll into the West Bank and several Palestinian refugee camps are subject to ethnic cleansing. In the shadow of the extreme war crimes and violations of international law that have occurred since 2023, daily human rights violations are being normalized. This is a dangerous development that should chill us all to the bone. The nominees have worked tirelessly to protect the basic rights of Palestinians from oppression, both from the Israeli occupation regime and violent settlers.

Fiskaa strongly condemns the Israeli genocide of Gaza, the ongoing ethnic cleansing of the West Bank and the apartheid state of Israel. Peace and justice for the Israeli and Palestinian people cannot be relinquished to the governments of either Netanyahu, al-Hayya or Abbas. A just and peaceful future is entirely in the hands of brave human right defenders, according to Fiskaa. “We cannot sit by and watch ethnic cleansing and the escalation of Israeli annexation. Netanyahu and Trump are about to normalize extreme violations against the Palestinians. A Nobel Peace Prize to the brave and persistent human right defenders in Israel and Palestine will be the global protest needed to break the dangerous silence.”

Issa Amro is a Palestinian human rights activist born and raised in Hebron, one of the places where apartheid is most visible. Amro has been working with non-violent, strategic and creative means against Israeli settler colonialism and occupation for more than twenty years. He was a pioneer in documenting human rights violations. He has been harassed, arrested, tortured and imprisoned by the Israeli army a number of times. However, his international network and recognition has to an extent protected him from long sentences.

Jeff Halper is one of the main critics of Israeli occupation within the Jewish community in Jerusalem. Halper works systematically for democracy, equal rights and international law. He is the Director of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions which collaborates closely with Palestinian human rights groups. He has several times stopped the IDF from demolishing Palestinian communities and risked his own life in doing so. Halper has written several books about peacemaking in Palestine/Israel and conducts impressive international informational work

Issa Amro and Jeff Halper have both witnessed the escalation of the ethnic cleansing and annexation and express an urgent need for action and intervention to secure justice and peace. Their nomination for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize could not be more timely or strategic for all those wishing peace and justice for both peoples in a shared homeland of equal rights and a hopeful future.
