End Home Demolitions

As an Israeli peace and human rights organization, ICAHD focuses its activities around resistance to Israel's policy of demolishing Palestinian homes, both in Israel and in the Occupied Palestine Territory (OPT). The demolition policy is part of Israel’s attempt to Judaize Palestine, to transform an Arab country into a Jewish one. During and after the Nakba of 1948, when the state of Israel was established, it systematically demolished about 52,000 Palestinian homes, more than 530 entire villages, towns and urban neighborhoods. Since the beginning of the Occupation in 1967, Israel has demolished another 55,000 homes in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. Thousands more continue to be demolished inside Israel itself.

One Democratic State Campaign (ODSC)

In recent years, the idea of a one democratic state in all of historic Palestine as the best solution to the conflict has re-emerged. It started gaining increased support in the public domain. It is not a new idea. The Palestinian liberation movement, before the catastrophe of 1948 (the Nakba) and after it, had adopted this vision, including the Palestinian Liberation Organization. The PLO abandoned this idea in the framework of the diplomatic negotiations at the late eighties that led to the Oslo agreement of 1993. The Palestinian leadership hoped that this agreement would enable the building of an independent Palestinian state on the territories that Israel occupied in 1967. But on the ground Israel has strengthened its colonial control, fragmenting the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza into isolated cantons, separated from one another by settlements, checkpoints, military bases and fences.

Protest Against JCB allowing its bulldozers and pneumatic drills to be used for home demolitions in Palestine/Israel

On Wednesday 12 February 2020, the UN Human Rights Office issued a long-awaited report identifying 112 companies involved in business activities in settlements in the Occupied Palestine Territory which violate Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Among the companies identified is JCB, whose bulldozers and pneumatic drills have been used to demolish Palestinian homes to clear land for the construction of settlements, actions in gross violation of the 4th Geneva Convention.

Call on the NSPCC to stop accepting donations from JCB

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) is a charity campaigning and working in child protection in the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands, however it receives donations from JCB, despite these machines being used to demolish Palestinian homes. A campaign entitled Protecting Palestinian Families has been set up in association with Corporate Occupation / Stop the Demolitions whose particular focus is on the effect of Israel’s policy of destroying Palestinian homes and livelihoods on children and their families. This campaign group operates under the umbrella of Stop the Demolitions.

In detailed correspondence with NSPCC officers and Trustees, compelling reasons for dropping JCB as a donor were given but went unheeded by the NSPCC. We are therefore calling on NSPCC to demonstrate a truly ethical position, cease to take money from JCB and prove that every child matters.

JNF, Do Not Evict the Sumreen Family

ICAHD is part of the very diverse political group that make up the Sumreen Coalition that is pressurizing the Jewish National Fund (JNF) to stop its determination to evict the Sumreen family from their home in Silwan, East Jerusalem, located directly below the Old City.

On June 30th, 2020, the Israeli courts are scheduled to hear the final appeal of a case in which the Keren Kayemeth Leisrael-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF), through its subsidiary organization, Himanuta, will seek to evict the Palestinian Sumreen family consisting of 18 members from their home.

Global Palestine

A lot of attention has been directed recently at the "training" American police receive from Israel. Its extensive and pervasive. A lot of the violent and militarized police culture we see has either been generated by Israeli tactics and weaponry - or has been reinforced by it (American police forces being violent well before Israel).

We should focus on three main sources of Israeli influence on US (and global) law enforcement. First, Israel trains police to see citizens as terrorists. Counterterrorism is the "mentality," partly because the Israeli police, highly militarized, subscribe to the notion "shoot first, ask questions after." Engaging with the "enemy/criminal/protester/terrorist," as both Israeli & US police culture see us, is unthinkable and dangerous, since it gives the bad guys (all of us) a chance to strike first. (My book "War Against the People" gets into much of this, Chapter 12.)
