The ICAHD family mourns the passing of our good friend and supporter Professor David Pegg, and we extend our condolences to his wife and partner Dr Monica Wusteman and all the family.

David had a distinguished career as a clinical scientist and academic. He had posts in London, Cambridge and York where he was made an Honorary Professor in the Biology Department, a position he held from 1999 - 2013. He specialized in organ transplantation and pioneered new freezing techniques that were ground-breaking in the preservation from extinction that impacts both the plant and animal kingdom.  His achievements and encyclopaedic knowledge won him international recognition in Europe, North America and Japan.

David Pegg was passionate about human rights and this led him to significant involvement with the York Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), British Committee for Universities of Palestine (BRICUP), and the International Medical Education Trust 2000 (IMET2000).

For many years David was actively engaged in ICAHD UK activities, including speaking at our conference in 2009. He and Monica, a member of ICAHD UK’s Executive Committee, had experience of lobbying at the EU on behalf of justice for Palestinians which they did with York PSC. They then offered to support ICAHD UK in lobbying at the EU. We are grateful to David for accompanying our UK team when Jeff Halper, ICAHD’s Director, was brought to Brussels for this purpose and for when he and Monica hosted Jeff Halper’s speaking engagements in York.

The entire ICAHD family (Israel, UK, USA, Finland and Germany) appreciated David’s wise counsel, his energy and his political commitment. He will be sorely missed.
