‘Sumud – My West Bank Farm’ follows the lives of Atta and Rudina Jaber and their family over more than twenty years. ICAHD UK's October Conferences

Jeff Halper Naema Wajeeh Aldaqsha Daoud Ghoul

Maria Pallister Simon Woodman Bruno Sorrentino

ICAHD UK is hosting two conference this autumn – in London on 19^th October and in Edinburgh on 26^th October and pictured are some of the key speakers.

Israel’s war on Gaza captured the world’s attention. It revealed how complicit Western nations are in allowing Israel’s genocide to continue without regard for international law. It also brought millions of people of all ages and backgrounds out onto the streets, and university students out of classes and into campus encampments. At last Palestine has become a global issue connecting many other struggles.

However, Palestinians and Palestine remain under threat as Israel’s genocide has been allowed to continue despite directives from the ICJ, ICC and votes in the UN’s General Assembly. What more can be done to pressure governments to finally hold Israeli authorities to account and to help bring freedom and justice to Palestine?

The conferences will provide wonderful opportunities to engage with our speakers and to meet with other attendees involved in the Palestinian struggle. Live streaming will also be provided for the London conference. Go to our website for further information and to book your tickets.

Jeff goes on to mention how “global Palestine” means more than Palestine itself. This is about the struggle of the people of the Middle East to free themselves from imperial powers and neo-liberal imperialism.

This is an historical moment which has Israel on the cusp of normalizing its routine over the Palestinians. International civil society must facilitate ways to help bring Palestinians together so they can lead the way in their liberation.

If you are not able to attend one of the day conferences in London or Edinburgh, find Jeff speaking at evening meetings in one of these other locations .

Jeff lives in Jerusalem and for many years has been a central figure in the Palestinian-Israeli issue, both as an activist on the ground and as an author and commentator. Visiting the UK at a time of such volatility, he is sure to bring insights to help us understand what is unfolding in the Middle East with the accompanying international repercussions.

Jeff will also reframe the Palestinian-Israeli question as an anti-colonial struggle, not a “conflict” between “sides” and will contrast Israel’s hasbara framing with a “justice and rights-based” framings grounded in Palestinian positions, international law and justice.

There is no fee for attending these meetings though donations will be taken and his book Decolonizing Israel, Liberating Palestine: Zionism, Settler Colonialism and the Case for One Democratic State will be for sale. The Final Push to Normalize the Judaization of Palestine Photo: A couple from the Bakka valley, Hebron holding document of their home following its demolition - 2024

Israel's purpose in reshaping the Middle East is clear: after 130 years of Zionist colonization, it seeks to finally normalize its Judaization of Palestine. The Palestinians who remain in their country, half the Palestinian population but also half the population today in the country, have already been confined to small enclaves on 10% of their homeland. In this latest explosion of genocidal violence, Israel is attempting to eradicate the last vestiges of Palestinian resistance while consolidating its apartheid regime through massive settlement expansion, expropriation of land, house demolitions, and using the settlers and the army to drive farmers and shepherds off vast tracts of territory.

What remains is to normalize Israeli apartheid, normalization marking the irreversible culmination of all settler colonial projects.

Although the United States has been advancing such a process for years through diplomatic and military means, it needs the imprimatur of the Arab world - or more precisely, the "moderate" Sunni states who enjoy Western support, from Jordan and Egypt to those who joined the Abrahamic Accords brokered by Trump, the Gulf States most importantly. Every demolition during September was because the structure had not been given a building permit. Israel rarely grants permission for Palestinians to build homes and structures vital for living despite facilitating Israeli construction, even when doing so is in gross violation of international law. Israel is never called to account and knows that it can act with immunity. Hence this is another example of Israel’s apartheid policies in its distinction between the Jewish and Palestinian populations.

During September, the village of Al-Araqib, located in the Naqab/Negev, was demolished for the 230^th time since July 2010. The Palestinians from the village continue their resistance by rebuilding what is possible in defiance of Israel’s cruel policy of displacement and ethnic cleansing.
