We are delighted to announce that Norwegian MP Ingrid Fiskaa has nominated ICAHD’s Jeff Halper and Issa Amro from Youth Against Settlements in Hebron for the Nobel Peace Prize 2025.

In the announcement prepared by Ms Fiskaa, it states that a Peace Prize for Issa and Jeff would be a powerful rebuke of the current violations of the Palestinian people and a powerful and necessary defense of the rules-based international order which is now being torn apart. She says that these nominees bring a light of hope in times of total darkness. “As the political and military conflict between Israel and Palestine seems deeper than ever, it is incumbent upon us to highlight the alternative voices who work and advocate for universal human rights and a common future on the ground.”

joint statement from Jeff and Issa welcoming the nomination has been released. They refer to their long-time work as non-violent resisters “on the ground” to Israel’s occupation and apartheid and for their shared vision for a just and inclusive future for their peoples in a shared homeland.

Issa Amro, the Palestinian nominee, lives in Hebron, in the H2 area which is under military control and where extreme Jewish Israeli religious settlers also reside. In 2007, Issa founded Youth Against Settlements which seeks to end the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements through non-violent popular struggle and civil resistance. Youth Against Settlements trains youth in peaceful direct actions, documents human rights violations, leads tours of Hebron and the vicinity for international delegations and offers political briefings for diplomats and journalists. As a result, Issa has been arrested and tortured by the Israeli occupation forces but prosecuted as well by the Palestinian Authority. Amnesty International and the United Nations have recognized Issa as a Human Rights Defender.

Jeff Halper, the Israeli nominee, lives in Jerusalem. Jeff is the Director of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD), established in 1997, and is a founding member of the One Democratic State Campaign. ICAHD focuses on resisting Israel’s ongoing demolition of Palestinian homes, farms, mosques, churches and community buildings communities, some half million since the Nakba in 1948 and working with the families and their communities, ICAHD has rebuilt 190 Palestinian homes demolished by Israel. In 2008, he participated in the first attempt of the Free Gaza Movement to break the Israeli siege by sailing into Gaza. Jeff is an author and engages in international advocacy. He exposes Israel’s intent to transform Palestine from an Arab country into an exclusively Jewish state.
