A few spaces are still left for the ICAHD-recommended extended study tour of Israel and Palestine.

The 2019 dates for the spring extended study tour are 18 – 28 March.

This study tour is grounded in ICAHD analysis and offers unique time with Dr Jeff Halper, ICAHD’s Founder, who sets the scene by describing the current reality in Palestine/Israel within its historical and political context. Jeff will help participants understand the significance of the latest rapidly unfolding developments including the impact of the Nation-State bill that passed in the Knesset and the growing call for the solution to be one democratic state.

Through spending time on both sides of the divide, participants obtain insight about the life of the occupied and the occupier. As you meet with Palestinians, learn how its society has been tragically fragmented over seven decades and about the acts of non-violence and sumud (steadfastness) that persist. Hear voices from critical Israeli Jews who courageously challenge their government’s policies and lift a mirror to Israeli society. Encounter both people and organisations that are on the cutting edge. The tour begins in Jerusalem and goes south into the Negev, east along the Jordan Valley, north to the Galilee and west along the Mediterranean Sea with many visits scheduled along the way. Debriefing sessions are held each evening which enhance the programme.

Accommodation is in Bethlehem, East Jerusalem and Nazareth. The cost of the tour is £1200 and includes the full tour programme staying at good three-star hotels at half-board (bed, breakfast and evening meal), sharing a twin-bedded room with ensuite facilities, guidance from the tour leader, other day-guides and tips. Flights, lunches and travel insurance are not included. An additional supplement of £280 is available for single room accommodation by request. Travel is by our own private comfortable coach with an expert local driver from a licensed bus company. The group is kept to a maximum of 18 participants.

Participants of the November 2019 tour said:

I don’t imagine I will forget one moment of our trip. One of the most worthwhile things I have done for a long time. Our leader’s knowledge – expertise –  seemingly effortless leadership skills and up beat humour got us all through a challenging  excursion on all fronts. S Stone

It was astonishing how much we managed to do and see – all of it so vibrant and informative that it was only once I got home and relaxed, that I realised how physically, mentally and emotionally demanding it had all been.

Where to even start? Visiting The Tent of Nations, Rasheed in the Jordan Valley and Atta Jaber taught us something of how it is to live under a violent and cruel regime, and the almost unimaginable courage with which they resisted.

Going to many different landscapes, cities and villages, seeing barriers and fences, forests and settlements, and being given commentary on them, was crucial in grounding us in the wide reality.

I appreciated the facts and resources given by the organisations such as OCHA, and BADIL, and I am making good use of them.

Hearing from Israeli activists was encouraging  esp Jeff Halper, Haggai Matar from +927 and the psychotherapists at Psychoactive. – all food for endless thought and reflection. I have now got some deep, physical sense of the Big Picture – geographically, politically, historically, and ‘on the ground.’ A Tracy

“This tour was a great experience. I learned a great deal, in a more human and dialogic form than books, articles, movies, or reports. I had a blind spot where Palestine is and now I have a million questions. The company was wonderful, the hotels lovely, the food great. I was so sad to part at the end.” E Harris
