Rebuilt Hamdan home with camp volunteers

FIRST OF FIVE HOUSES TO BE REBUILT DURING ICAHD iS

8TH ANNUAL SUMMER REBUILDING CAMP

On Sunday, August 1st, 2010, ICAHD will dedicate the home of the Hamdan family of Anata, demolished twice by the Israeli authorities for ilack of a building permiti and rebuilt twice by ICAHD volunteers from Israel and abroad, together with grassroots Palestinian groups. After two weeks of work at the site of the demolition, the rubble has been replaced by a new four room home; on Sunday, a dedication ceremony will be held in which the keys to the home are presented to the family and, collectively, we help them move their belongings inside.

The ceremony will be hosted by ICAHD and its Palestinian partners in Anata. Public officials will greet the guests and community groups will perform.

After several weeks of massive demolitions in the Occupied Territories as well as among the Bedouin of the Negev, weeks of settler pressure to evict Palestinian families from their homes in the Old City and East Jerusalem, and weeks of settler violence against Palestinian farmers, the dedication of the Hamdan house is a powerful expression of determination on the part of Israelis and Palestinian together that the Occupation will indeed end and a just peace will emerge. We refuse to be enemies.
